SunRoof and Veolia enter into strategic partnership to accelerate energy transformation of Polish cities
SunRoof, an innovative startup creating 2-in-1 solar roofs and solutions to support smart energy management, has entered into partnership with Veolia Energia Łódź and Veolia Energia Warsaw.
- The transformational partnership combines SunRoof’s cutting-edge solar technology with Veolia’s largest thermal energy system in Poland, paving the way to climate neutrality.
- SunRoof has become the exclusive supplier of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) to Veolia customers with potential installation capacity in the range of 50-500 kWp.
- The first joint projects, providing 100% renewable energy (RES), will be completed in 2021.
The revolutionary combination of solar roofs and 2-in-1 façades offered by SunRoof and Veolia’s more than 20 years of experience in heat supply and energy management represents a significant step towards building a low-carbon energy system and developing green and cost-efficient solutions.
According to “Poland’s Energy Policy by 2040”, adopted at the beginning of February, the share of renewable energy sources in gross final energy consumption in 2030 will amount to at least 23%, with 28% in the heating sector and no less than 32% in the power sector. The plan also assumes reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by about 30% by 2030 as compared to 1990. Improvement of air quality, in turn, will require increased energy efficiency of buildings and development of district heating (4-fold increase in the number of efficient district heating systems by 2030).
Green transformation thus requires an integrated approach and implementation of new environmentally friendly solutions at the junction of construction and energy.
As part of the signed partnership, SunRoof and Veolia will implement projects for business and municipal customers that provide 100% renewable energy.
The collaboration involves using efficient solar roofs and 2-in-1 façades as the primary energy source in combination with low- and zero-carbon district heating and electricity networks covering the rest of the electricity and heat needs of households and public facilities.
With Veolia, we share a common vision of climate-neutral cities and open up new opportunities for a complete transition to sustainable energy. Synergistic thinking is a key element of our cooperation. We complement solar innovation with next-generation technologies and show how the cleanest and easily accessible solar energy is changing our future. I am glad that we are taking this important step together, actively participating in green transformation
-- says Lech Kaniuk, CEO of SunRoof.
Veolia is a key provider of district heat in Poland. It is also a leading investor that modernises the Polish energy sector through implemented innovations and, like SunRoof, meets climate challenges.
The idea behind Veolia’s operations is to ‘renew the world’s resources’, understood among other things as the optimal use of the resources at our disposal. Turning to solar energy is a natural step in the decarbonisation process that we have been implementing for years. By introducing a range of services based on photovoltaics to our offer, we support green transformation in Poland, contributing to the improvement of air quality in cities and shifting the economy to low emissions
-- says Adrian Sienicki, Commercial Director at Veolia Energia Łódź.
Improving the energy efficiency of buildings is of key importance in achieving climate neutrality. Most of them have an energy standard deviating from the one that applies to all new and renovated buildings from 2021. It is estimated that up to 75% of buildings in the EU are energy inefficient. It is thus so important to promote passive and zero-emission homes using renewable energy sources. The future lies in photovoltaics integrated into architecture - not only for practical reasons, but also for visual ones. It does not interfere with urban landscape, unlike standard PV installations mounted on buildings, and maintains the nice appearance of public spaces.
SunRoof
SunRoof manufactures 2-in-1 solar roofs and innovative façades that generate electricity without having to install traditional photovoltaic modules. This is the best replacement for a regular roof, offering the highest efficiency, the lowest carbon footprint, and a unique aesthetic. Our mission is to speed up the global transition to renewables by developing beautiful roofs that, by generating electricity, will cover the energy demand of the entire building.
